For Dough
  1. 2 tbsp caster sugar
  2. 1 tbsp dried yeast
  3. 200 ml warm milk
  4. 300 g plain flour
  5. 20 g softened butter
  6. 1/2 tsp salt
For Filling
  1. 150 g firm cheese, cut into 8 even bars
For Brushing
  1. 1 egg
  2. 1 tbsp milk
Instructions
  1. Stir up 1 tsp sugar and dried yeast with warm milk. Leave to rest for 15 min.
  2. In a large bowl mix together flour, remaining sugar, softened butter, salt and the yeast mixture.
  3. Knead an elastic dough. Leave to rest for 30 min.
  4. Knead again for a few minutes. Leave to rest for another 30 min.
  5. Cut the dough in 8 even parts.
  6. Roll (or use fingers) each piece in oval shaped sheet (0.3 cm thick). Make 3 lengthways cuts on one edge. Place a cheese bar on the opposite side and roll. Seal the edges.
  7. Leave to rest for 15-20 minutes.
  8. Slightly beat the egg with milk. Brush top of the pastry.
  9. Bake at 180C for 15-20 min.
